decals?

Sometimes I just can’t decide whether or not I like something…

I always preferred mounted wall art or prints over decals. But I’m starting to think that when they are used well, decals can bring intrigue, conversation and life to a room that are lacking in other wall features.

quote of the day…

As I pack up my life into a multitude of cardboard boxes I enter into the task of culling, salvaging and cherishing the possessions I have collected along the way. All the while, keeping in mind this quote I saw on the facebook page of freshome.com the other day.

I am about to begin fulfilling the latter of this phrase, and despite the sadness caused by leaving my hometown… I just can’t wait.

a spot to sit

I’m troving for a kitchen/dining chair. And I wonder whether this is the time to fulfill my life-long love affair with Thonet bentwoods…

The iconic silhouettes  originate in the 1850s from the Austrian-German designer, Michael Thonet. Each of the styles play favourite in cafes and restaurants, across the world.

They have character and are instantly recognisable. However, the design is so simple and straight-forward that they don’t shout for your attention.

Whether you live on acreage, have a modest backyard, a courtyard or a small balcony it is essential to have green space. Even if it’s just a planter box of herbs on the kitchen window sill.

I’m loving the concept of stacking, as featured in this post by apartmenttheray.com. I can picture a stack of my cookbooks, interior design books and fave reads next to my lounge, for easy access, functioning as a side table substitute… just as soon as I find my new home!

blank canvas

I have watched the trend of blogging result in many people start and quickly lose interest in the act of publishing their personal accounts online. And I have always thought, if I decide to divulge my personal thoughts, inspirations, musings, everything into the public domain – it would not be just a passing fling.

This blog will track the journey I take in furnishing my first home. Join me as I discover my personal design taste and transform My Blank Canvas into a space to call my very own.
